About

Hello & welcome to Bows Couture, the brand created by me Michelle which came from my diagnosis of breast cancer in August 2011 aged 25.

My Journey

My journey started at the age of 25 whilst routinely checking my breasts I found a lump in my breast, after GP & hospital appointments, scans and tests including biopsy and mammogram I got the result I never expected to hear.....grade 3 Breast Cancer which involved immediate mastectomy to right breast and removal of lymph nodes with 6 months chemotherapy, 18 cycles of Herceptin followed by 3 weeks of Radiotherapy.
I knew then this would be the hardest thing in my life with my 2 children and husband all starting this new unexpected challenge.
Following diagnosis I realised I was clueless about Breast Cancer and also found that my friends and family also had little idea how to check for the signs & symptoms.
So one day ill in bed I came up with a quirky way to grab the attention of women of all ages, I grabbed my old bra which was no longer needed following surgery and stuck it to my plain bag I had, and got creative. Before I knew it Bows Bags was born!
Bags became popular which enabled me to donate to Breast Cancer Care who had helped me and continue to help others.
I’ve been lucky enough to grab the attention and help spread the message to ‘Check Your Boobies’ through people such as Debbie Douglas who uses her bag on The Only Way is Essex, Seen on MTV The Valleys. Coronation Street starts such as Catherine Tyldesley, Brooke Vincent & Helen Flanagan are a few who own Bows Bags.
By this time it had been a tough few months losing my hair and undergoing surgery and all the emotional effects of being diagnosed with Cancer. I kept myself busy making bags but felt I needed abit if the old ‘me’ back, this is when I decided to apply to be a model for the Breast Cancer Fashion show & to my surprise I was chosen, this resulted in me being styled by Hilary Alexander, strutting my stuff in front of over 1000 people at London’s Grosvenor Hotel. From taking part in this event seeing hands on what Breast Cancer Care do and the support they offer is exactly why I donate to them.                                   The fight goes on 2 operations later and least another 1 to go.

Spreading the message
